Join our Sunset Days for Girls Team in a service project you can do at home! Our brother and sister, Ramesh and Dolly will be traveling to visit family in India as soon as travel restrictions are lifted. They will be taking our completed feminine hygiene kits with them for distribution there. We still need underwear and washcloths to complete the kits and they need to be folded in a specific way. The youtube links for how to fold are listed in the section below. We would like to complete this project by June 30.

You can either purchase underwear or washcloths yourself, fold and drop off at Debbie Schwiep’s home or at the church building or we have a limited amount that can be picked up, folded and returned to/from the Schwiep home. There will be containers on the front porch labeled.

What is days for girls

Days for Girls (DfG) is a global movement that prepares and distributes sustainable menstrual health solutions to girls who would otherwise miss school during their monthly periods. The nonprofit organization was founded in 2008 by American woman Celeste Mergens. After visiting an orphanage in Nairobi, Kenya, she discovered that menstruating girls stayed in their dormitories for days, sitting on cardboard to absorb their flow, because they could not afford feminine hygiene products. She developed the idea of creating washable, reusable pads and providing the girls with a personal kit of all they would need to continue their schooling with hygiene and dignity.

Days for Girl is committed to supporting a girl throughout her entire lifecycle, from providing her with a DfG Kit, to teaching her health education, to offering training for her when she grows older, so that she can produce DfG Kits and support hygiene needs in her community.

What are DfG Kits

The kit enables girls to carry their clean and used pads discreetly and to take care of their own hygiene needs. Each kit is in a draw-string bag and includes reusable cloth menstrual pads made up of colorful shields and liners, panties, a washcloth and soap, zip-closure plastic bags and other items. The kit enables girls to carry their clean and used pads discreetly and to take care of their own hygiene needs. During the distributions, women and girls also receive health education to break stigmas and cultural taboos associated with menstruation. Each DfG Kit has been hand-sewn by volunteers or enterprise leaders who are held to DfG quality standards.
